The Indians insist they’re not trying to rattle the competition, but Red Sox starter Josh Beckett will still hear an old flame singing tonight’s National Anthem prior to Game 5 when country music artist - and former Beckett girlfriend - Danielle Peck takes the microphone.

“It’s an incredible coincidence. Honestly,” Indians spokesman Bob DiBiasio told the Cleveland Plain-Dealer. “This isn’t another bug thing.

“She’s from Ohio. Her entire family are Indians fans.”

That’s Peck second from the left in a photo from her web site. Go Indians.

“We did not know anything about her connections to Beckett. The next day, we find out the rest of the story…How are we supposed to know who Josh Beckett dates?”

They don’t have scouts for that?

Joseph Abraham Gottlieb was the youngest of five children born February 3, 1919 and grew up in the New York Bronx.

With a natural gift for telling stories making his friends and family laugh, he soon started a stand-up comedy act with his brother, Maury.

This led him to television as early as 1948 working with such talents as Jack Parr and Steve Allen.

With a few film credits under his belt portraying G.I.’s in “The Naked and the Dead” and “Onionhead,” he soon was offered a chance to work with his “Rat Pack” buddies in the original, “Ocean’s 11″ playing the part during the day of “Mushy O’ Conners” while performing with his pals, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, jr. and Peter Lawford on stage at night at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas.

They would also repeat their fun times in the western remake of “Gunga Din,” “Sergeants 3.”

He also was in the underrated, “Johnny Cool” starring Henry Silva in 1963.

Mr. Bishop was the star of “The Joey Bishop Show” from 1961-1965 which featured him as a talk show host dealing with the behind-the-scenes craziness.

Years later, Mr. Bishop would have his own late night talk show on ABC, also called, “The Joey Bishop” show interviewing many interesting people.

He also guest-hosted “Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show” more times than anyone else.

Mr. Bishop was a kind, funny human being that entertained many people with his incredible talent:

He made us laugh.

Every time Jessica McClure passes some sort of milestone, OTB gets search engine referrals to long-forgotten (by me, anyway) posts about her. Today, “‘Baby Jessica’ McClure Marries at 19” is getting slammed, prompting me to check Google News to see what’s happened. It turns out that it’s been 20 years since she fell into that well and become internationally famous.

In October 1987, the nation focused in on Midland, Texas, and became captivated by the story of an 18-month-old toddler who became stuck in a well.

Jessica McClure, or baby Jessica as she came to be known to the world, gained international attention as rescuers worked to free her.

Now, 20 years after she gained world’s attention, Jessica McClure is a wife and mother.

McClure is unable to remember how she fell into an eight-inch abandoned well covered by a flower pot in her backyard. The fact Jessica has no memory of the event may be ironic — because many of her rescuers and residents said they would never be able to forget it.

Perhaps more interestingly, she’s set to collect $1 million on her 25th birthday.

Chip McClure says his daughter is a wonderful mother, whose dream has always been to be a stay-at-home mom. She has a 1-year-old son, Simon.

But Jessica’s quiet existence in Midland could change in 3.5 years. That’s when all the monetary tributes sent to “Baby Jessica” while the world waited for her safe rescue — mature into a payment of $1 million or more. The trust fund is waiting for Jessica to turn 25.

Inquiring minds and all that.

Elana Glatt, pictured below, formerly Elana Elbogen, has sued her wedding florist for $400,000 for “egregriously” failing to match the color scheme Elana Glatt had requested for her floral arrangements.

Never piss off a bride like Elana Glatt, who’s also a Jewish lawyer, because she’ll blow things way out of proportion and seek revenge even when it means becoming the laughingstock of New York’s legal profession.

Here’s the skinny on what happened to piss off Elana (who looks like she could chew nails and enjoy it): Horror of horrors, the florist substituted pastel pink and green hydrangeas for the dark rust and green hydrangeas she had specified for 22 centerpieces.

The florist, Stamos Arakas, owns Posy Floral Design at 145 East 72nd Street, pictured below.

According to the New York Post:

Not only was the color wrong, Ms. Glatt said in the lawsuit, filed on Friday in State Supreme Court in Manhattan, but the hydrangeas were wilted and brown, and arranged in dusty vases without enough water.

Their pastel colors clashed with the linens, favor boxes, wedding cake and décor at Cipriani 42nd Street, the luxurious restaurant where she and her husband, David Glatt, held their reception, Ms. Elana Glatt said.

“The use of predominantly pastel centerpieces had a significant impact on the look of the room and was entirely inconsistent with the vision the plaintiffs had bargained for,” Ms. Glatt, a lawyer who practices under the name Elana Elbogen, said in the lawsuit, which she filed on behalf of herself, her husband and her mother-in-law, Tobi Glatt, who paid for the flowers.

Elana Glatt said they had reluctantly paid for the flowers in advance, with a cashier’s check for $27,435.14. She accused the florist of a “bait and switch” scheme, and asked for more than $400,000 in restitution and damages for, among other things, “unjust enrichment” by the florist.

In a litany of “distressing and embarrassing” offenses, the lawsuit says the florist substituted cheaper orchids than promised in the bridal bouquet and provided the equivalent of $5 roses from a street vendor, but charged $55 to $65 for those arrangements.

Elana Glatt yesterday said, “It was a lovely wedding,” except for the flowers.

Mr. Arakas, said yesterday that he had many satisfied customers. He said that he provided the flowers for Ms. Glatt’s sister’s wedding the year before, and that he did not ask Ms. Glatt to sign a contract because he trusted her.

He said that before filing the lawsuit, Ms. Glatt sent him a series of e-mail messages demanding a $4,000 refund. He said he and his wife ignored the e-mail messages because “we thought they were so insulting they didn’t dignify a response” and because it “felt like extortion.”

“My father used to tell me, ‘Don’t deal with lawyers,’” Mr. Arakas said. “Maybe he was right, God bless his soul.”

Will Elana Glatt sue the rabbi for malpractice when her husband divorces her? This whole wedding flowers lawsuit reeks of vengeance, spite, and immature behavior. And probably a little bit of greed too…

Soon her name will be synonymous with gold-digging lawsuits and female lawyer jokes. No word on whether she deemed her new husband’s honeymoon performance “egregrious” or not…

Mutts and Moms is the pet rescue agency that Ellen Degeneres got her Brussels Griffon mix dog named Iggy from. Mutts and Moms was not very happy when they learned that Ellen Degeneres had given the dog away to her hairdresser.

Mutts and Moms claims that by her giving the Brussels Griffon mix dog away it violated a contract agreement that Ellen had signed when she got the dog. The agreement says that if she can’t keep the dog that she must give it back.

Apparently Mutts and Moms having learned through a telephone call that Ellen Degeneres had given Iggy away to her hairdresser informed her that this violated there agreement. So Mutts and Moms went to the hairdresser’s house and took the dog away from its new home. Ellen did not like this at all as she said on the recording of her talk show, that will air today, that Iggy and her hairdressers kids had already bonded and that by taking the Brussles Griffon mix dog away from its new home it is going to break the little girls hearts. Ellen also apologizes on the show for not following the agreement stating that she thought she was doing a good thing in finding a good home for the dog.

There has not been any news that Mutts and Moms will change their mind at this point but after the show airs today they might be getting a ton of phone calls asking them to give the dog back to the new family. Ellen Degeneres has a wide reach for her talk show program as it is widely popular.

I believe that Affiliate Marketing is the fastest, easiest, and most effective way to break into the Internet Marketing field of business and I also believe it is one of the best Home Businesses you can start. Read on to find out why.

1. You don’t need your own product.

The beauty of Affiliate Marketing is that you don’t need a product to sell. There are plenty of merchants out there with plenty of products and they would be glad to pay you a commission to sell their products for them. That’s what Affiliate Marketing is all about. Selling other people’s stuff online.

2. You don’t need a shopping cart on your website.

With Affiliate Marketing, you don’t need to place a shopping cart on your website. And you don’t need to provide any means of accepting credit or processing payments either. With Affiliate Marketing, you just endorse the product you are selling, and provide a link (your unique affiliate link, of course) to the merchant’s site. Easy, right?

3. You don’t have to store or ship products.

One of the biggest things that drew me to Affiliate Marketing was the fact that I didn’t have to store or ship products. When I send a visitor to my merchant’s website and they place an order, the merchant ships the product. I just sit back and wait for the commission. That is a sweet deal.

4. You don’t have to deal with customer complaints. (Usually)Another big plus of Affiliate Marketing is that if a customer is not satisfied with the product he or she purchased they will usually go straight to the merchant to complain or request a refund. In rare cases, they may come back to your website and contact you through your information there, but that is really unusual. If they do come back to you, help them all you can. If you can’t help them directly you can be a liason between them and the merchant. That way you can show your customer that you do, indeed, care about his satisfaction.

5. You can sell anything you want to.

With Affiliate Marketing, you can sell any product you want to sell. Of course, you will want to sell products that are related to the theme of your Website, but the point is this. No matter what you site is about, you can literally find hundreds of products and merchants that will fit. There is no shortage of things to sell on the Internet. 6. You make money while you’re not even working.

The beauty of Affiliate Marketing is that once you have your site set up and tweaked you can easily put it on auto-pilot. Since your merchants are the ones who ship the product and handle customer inquiries, you can sit back and relax and still make money. Of course, you will want to keep an eye on your site to make sure things are running smoothly, and you will want to add fresh content from time to time to stay friendly to the search engines, but it’s a real joy to wake up in the morning, check your stats, and find out that you made a couple of hundred dollars while you were getting your beauty sleep. Sweet.

So, now you know why I am completely sold on Affiliate Marketing. If the number of people who are engaged in selling other people’s stuff online are any indication then I am not alone. There are thousands and thousands of people online making money with Affiliate Marketing. If you are interested in a Home Business, you should really consider getting involved with Affiliate Marketing. It’s the easiest way to go. Cliff Ruder is an Internet Marketer specializing in Affiliate Marketing. He likes to spread the word about it being the easiest way to break into Internet Marketing for anyone wanting the ideal Home Business. Cliff highly recommends The Super Affiliate Handbook by Rosalind Gardner as this was his introduction to Affiliate Marketing.

During the last week of September 2007, Mr. McPhatter accompanied by two other riders was traveling inside the Baltimore beltway on Interstate 83 following the speed of traffic; he changed lanes only to be cut off by a driver who then hit the brakes. Mr. McPhatter plowed into the back of the car and was ejected 100 feet in the air hitting the ground at an impact rate of 140 mph.

One of his companions went over to him fearing the worst not even checking for vital signs and protecting his friend by shielding cars from his body.

Mr. McPhatter is only suffering from sore ribs/knees/bruised shoulders and a broken thumb socket. A Maryland State Trooper said to him at the hospital, “…this jacket Impact Jacket(TM) saved your life!”

Since 1997 motorcycles fatalities have increased by 89 percent from 2,116 to 4,008 in 2004 according to the NHTSA. The recently released 2005 projections show motorcycle rider fatalities are expected to increase for the eight year in a row. The increase in motorcycle rider fatalities from 2004 to 2005 as per the projections is 7.7 percent — from 4,008 to 4,315. Recent high-profile motorcycle accidents that have occurred have reinforced the importance of wearing rider protection.

The Impact Jackets(TM) will provide safety for riders, therefore providing an overall secure feeling for the riders, families and their loved ones, and in the end aiding in saving the lives of riders who are involved in accidents nationwide.- Source: PRNewswire-USNewswire

“Criminal Minds” follows a team of FBI profilers who tackle serial killers on a federal level or when invited by local authorities. Made up of a diverse group of agents, the team is led by veteran profiler Jason Gideon (Mandy Patankin) and FBI agent Aaron Hotchner (Thomas Gibson) as they attempt to paint a picture of the unknown criminal in order to catch him. The first season was released on DVD in November of 2006, and DVDTalk has a review here.

The Show
A solid freshman effort established the serial killer drama as a weekly destination for quality storytelling, and left the audience hanging with a finale that took full-advantage of the show’s genre roots and pulp sensibilities. But what would it do for an encore, when expecations for a series are higher? Anyone who guessed what it would do is beat out “Lost” in the ratings to become one of TV’s most-watched shows probably does pretty well at lottery too. After all, there are plenty of procedural series out there that tread similar ground. But what sets “Criminal Minds” apart from the pack are the creepy cases, terrific cast and genuine mysteries, all of which areratcheted up in season two.

With just one season of history, albeit an effective one in terms of establishing the characters, the series’ creators felt comfortable shaking things up in terms of the team, and no one was safe, right off the bat, with the season premiere, the continuation of the previous season’s cliffhanger finale. In fact, being part of the show’s main cast is practically a guarantee of personal hardship. Each member of the main cast gets a chance to suffer, some more than other. One arc that puts Reid (Matt Gray Gubler) in danger, is particularly dark, though unfortunately without the hoped-for payoff, while “Profiler, Profiled” a story that casts Morgan (Shemar Moore) as the suspect, is particularly touching and emotional as he revisits his troubled childhood.

While much of the cast finds their characters change this season, the biggest shake-up occurs when one of them leaves, in a way that’s natural and appropriate for the character and storyline. With an open spot on the roster, the series made a big-time move, bringing in Paget Brewster as Emily Prentiss. The daughter of diplomats, and carrying a questionable resume, she’s an outsider forced into a tight-knit group, and the show benefits both from her incoming status and character. Brewster is an incredible versatile actress and immensely likable, which made her a great addition, even if her usually energetic persona is toned down a bit as the buttoned-down Prentiss, who’s under pressure to prove herself. When the team isn’t busy battling their demons, or each other, they track down some of the most evil villains seen on network TV. Though some felt a bit derivative, such as the Saw-like killers in “North Mammon” and “Legacy” or the Paul Bernardo-inspired murderer in “The Perfect Storm”, they were almost all interesting and pretty well-developed in just 44 minutes (the only exception being the Eastern Promises precursor “Honor Among Thieves.”) The show also dipped into “ripped from the headlines” territory with stories about Iraq, hate crimes, Hurricane Katrina and terrorism. But, aside from the disturbing murders in “Ashes and Dust,” none of the bad guys were as intriguing as Frank (Keith Carradine.) Making two appearances this season, this soulless monster is the perfect foil for the team, as he aggressive confronts them, especially Gideon. A hero is frequently defined by his foe, and no one the profilers battle tells more about them than Frank, whom Carradine plays with the kind of subtle precision that keeps the character real and truly scary. In watching these episodes, knowing that Patinkin has left the series, it’s hard to picture the show without him, as he’s such an integral part of the team, Whether it’s his stoic attempt to understand a Muslim extremist in “Lessons Learned” or the quiet strength he shows in just about every episode, he gives the series an emotional core that will be hard to replicate. But then, adding Brewster to the team to fill an empty spot worked so well, that perhaps this change should be welcomed.

The DVDs
The 23 episodes in “Criminal Minds”‘ second season are spread over six discs (four on the first five, three on the sixth,) which are packed in three slipcased dual-hubbed clear ThinPaks, which have episode descriptions. The discs feature animated anamorphic widescreen menus, with options to select individual shows, adjust the set-up and check out special features (where applicable.) Language options include English Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0 tracks, and English closed captioning, though there are no subtitles. For those concerned about edited DVDs, there’s a note on the packaging that says “Some episodes may be edited from their original network versions.” What that means isn’t exactly clear, but my best guess would be some music replacements. The thing is, the previous set noted music changes, not “edited” episodes. The Quality
Once again, the anamorphic widescreen transfers in this set look terrific, with strong color and deep blacks, while maintaining a high level of detail. The image is extremely crisp, though darker scenes can get a bit “buzzy,” suffering from some slight noise. There’s no noticeable dirt or damage in the transfers, and no obvious digital artifacts,.The Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack is very strong, using the surround speakers to boost the show’s music, helping create atmosphere in a big way. The center channel gets the bulk of the dialogue and the majority of the sound effects, though there’s some action in the sides and rear that impress.

The Extras
The number of audio commentaries rose by one to four this season, with tracks available on “The Fisher King, Part 2,” “The Perfect Storm,” “Profiler, Profiled” and “Revelatations.” The participants are an interesting mix, with writers, directors and cast weighing in in small groups, including executive producer Edward Allen Bernero, Gubler and Moore. It would have been nice to hear from Brewster, but the four tracks are entertaining and informative, covering plenty of on-set stories and behind-the-scenes secrets. The commentary on “Profiler, Profiled” is probably the most interesting, due to the subject matter and Moore’s opportunity to talk about about his character’s part and his view of the process, while the inclusion of non-star actress Nicki Aycox is a nice (and unique) touch, but all of them offer something of interest to go with a jovial tone.

The tracks are:

“The Fisher King, Part 2″: Bernero and researcher/actress Amanda Bernero

“The Perfect Storm”: writers Erica Messer and Debra J. Fisher and actress Aycox

“Profiler, Profiled”: Bernero, Moore and director Glenn Kershaw

“Revelations”: Gubler and writer Chris Mundy

There are four featurettes on the final disc, and they are solid ones for the show’s fans. First up is “Profilers, Profiled,” a 13-minute look at the show’s characters, which is a quality summation of the second-season’s focus on the team’s personal histories, starring the cast and crew. The 15-minute “The Physical Evidence” focuses on the making-of the series, with interviews with many of those involved in making the show. Using key episodes as checking-in points, the piece goes on the set frequently and covers most aspects of the production. It’s an impressively deep featurette that’s fortunately free of any fluff.

“The Behavioral Science of Criminal Minds” spends almost 18 minutes on the real-world’s profilers, explaining how the job is done in reality and exploring the mindset of an unSub. It’s easily the best part of the set because it’s true and utterly fascinating. It’s followed by the six-minute “Meet Kirsten Vangsness,” which is similar to last season’s featurette on Gubler, as you get to spend some time with the actress away from the show. A goofy girl, she’s fun to hang out with and to find out more about.

For such a serious show, it sure looks like the cast and crew has a good time, if the 4:30 gag reel is any evidence. The main cast seems to be very silly, from Patinkin’s manic fits to Brewster’s goofball personality, and even the crew gets in on the fun. The gag reels on serious series normally let you see a different side of the stars, and this one is no exception.

The disc wraps with a pair of deleted scenes. The first one makes no real sense to me, but the second one includes a video intro from producer Gigi Coello-Bannon that puts the clip in context, which gives it some meaning, making it an interesting alternate take from the episode.

The Bottom Line
“Criminal Minds” is a unique series as it tells very compact, cinematic stories while unfurling a larger, more involved story about people confronting the darkness, yet never getting bogged down in the pacing issues that a serial series can get caught in. It also features a fantastic cast that has such chemistry that it survived a mid-season shake-up and came out stronger for it. There’s some terrifically scary stories in the second season of the show, and some of the finest detective work seen on TV today. The DVDs look and sound great, and in terms of the extras, the set went further than before, improving on what they did well before. While this set builds on what happened in the first season, including the conclusion of the first-season finale, the second season stands on its own, getting into the characters’ backgrounds and finding out why they are who they are, while telling some memorable stories. If you enjoy a good psychological drama or a well thought-out mystery, you will find what you like here.
